Audience
- The intended audience is anyone who desires to understand the basic concepts of the Common Information Model (CIM) and Web Based Enterprise Management (WBEM).
Synopsis
- This session provides an introduction to the basic concepts of the Common Information Model (CIM) and Web Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) technologies. Prior knowledge of CIM and WBEM is not required. Attendees will learn the significance of using an object-oriented data model to manage the enterprise. Attendees will also be exposed to other technologies and activities that complement the use of CIM and WBEM such as the Storage Management Initiative (SMI) and System Management Architecture for Server Hardware (SMASH).
Description
- Provide a brief overview of the DMTF technologies CIM and WBEM
- Explain the basic components of the DMTF CIM Specification v2.3
- Describe the CIM Schema v2.12 by providing a brief explanations of the Core and Common data models
- Describe the WBEM Operations as defined by the DMTF Specifiation for CIM Operations over HTTP v1.2
- Explain the discovery mechanism used to find WBEM services in a network as defined by DMTF WBEM Discovery Using the Service Location Protocol specification and WBEM SLP Template specification
- Explain the DMTF URI Mapping specification
- Provide a brief overview of the the SMI and SMASH Initiatives
- Explain the basic elements of the DMTF Server Management Command Line Protocol (CLP) specification
- Provide a brief overview of the SMI and SMASH Profiles
- Briefly summarize the Java programming interfaces as defined by JSR48
- Briefly summarize the C programming interfaces as defined by the Common Management Programming Interface (CMPI)
